Navigate Bible Word Study Results
Access the Bible Word Study Guide
You can open the Bible Word Study Guide from two locations: the Navigation Menu and the Lookup Menu.
1. Navigation Menu
This is the best place to start if you’re not currently viewing the word you want to study. Expand the Navigation Menu and tap Bible Word Study.
Press Get Started and type the word you want to study (learn how to search for original language terms by manually entering them).
2. Lookup Menu
If you’re already viewing the word you want to study in your Bible, double-tap it (or tap and hold) and tap Bible Word Study in the Lookup Menu. The guide runs on your selected word and displays its results in a new tab.
Note: If you select a word or phrase in a reverse interlinear translation, you can run a Bible Word Study guide on the underlying original language term. If your selection includes multiple underlying original language terms, swipe between cards to locate the original language word to study.
However you open the guide, you can change the search term in the entry field at the top of the guide.
Working with Original Languages
The easiest way to conduct a Bible Word Study on an original language term is with the Lookup Menu method described above. You can also, however, type to run a study on an original language term with two methods: system keyboard or transliteration.
Note: Keep in mind that any reverse interlinear English Bible in Logos will access the original Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic term from the Lookup Menu as described above. In other words, you don’t have to know Greek or Hebrew to get original language results. If you do want to manually type to search for an original language word, continue reading.
Method 1: Add an original language keyboard
iOS Directions:
- Open the Settings App.
- Tap General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard.
- Add a Greek and/or Hebrew Keyboard to your system.
- Switch to your Greek or Hebrew Keyboard with the keyboard globe icon.
Android Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap System > Languages & Input > Virtual keyboard > Gboard > Languages > Add keyboard.
- Add a Greek and/or Hebrew Keyboard to your system.
- Switch to your Greek or Hebrew Keyboard. On most Android devices you can tap the tiny keyboard icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen to choose another keyboard.
Method 2: Type a transliterated word.
- Type the proper prefix: g: (for Greek), h: (for Hebrew), or a: (for Aramaic)
- Add the transliterated form of the word
- Logos will either run the guide on your word or display a list of options to choose from.
Navigate Bible Word Study Results
The mobile Bible Word Study Guide features three different sections: definition, translation, and example uses.
1. Definition
The first section in the guide shows links to lexicons and dictionaries in your Library. Tap any resource to open the dictionary or lexicon entry on your word in a new tab.
Note: If you search for an English term, only dictionary entries will display.
2. Translation
The Translation section displays a ring for your word, showing how the original language term is translated in your preferred Bible. Tap any section of the ring for more information, including a list of key passages.
Note: If you search for an English term, this section is split into two: Hebrew words and Greek Words. The rings show which Hebrew and Greek terms your preferred Bible translates with your search term. Learn how to change your preferred Bible.
3. Example Uses
The final section displays instances where your word appears in the Bible and shows how that word is used in context.
Note: The Example Uses section does not display when you search for an English word.
