If you’re reading this, you’re probably invested in being able to read your Bible, and you’d like to use Logos to facilitate your Bible reading and Bible study in some way. You might think that wouldn’t need any instruction. Opening your Bible and reading it is a simple task in Logos. But it’s worth taking some time to learn about how Logos helps you do more with your Bible.
Open a Bible
Logos is Bible study software, and there are literally dozens of different ways you can get to your Bible. Here are a few key ways you’ll use to open your Bible to a specific place.
Enter a reference in the Command Box. In the autocomplete box that appears, select Go to [the passage you entered] in preferred Bible. Your Bible will open to the passage that you input. Remember, you can click and drag your Bible resource panel to resize and move it to a configuration that works best for you.
Open a Bible from the Library. Click Library to open the Library. In the Library’s find box, enter type:Bible. You’ll see all of the resources in your library that are Bibles. (Depending on what you have in your library, you may also see various biblical manuscripts.) Click the title of the Bible you want to open.
Open a Quickstart Layout. These layouts open your preferred Bible along with all of the tools you need for a certain task. Use Quickstart Layouts when you want to go beyond just reading a Bible. To open a Quickstart Layout, select Layouts and select a layout from the left pane of the menu.
Set Your Preferred Bible
Your preferred (or “default”) Bible is the Bible version that Logos will open when you open a Bible using the Command Box, a layout, and every other time you perform an action that opens a Bible in Logos. To set what Bible version you want to be preferred, find it in the Library, right-click it, then select Prioritize this Book. A prioritization panel will appear, with your selected Bible version at the top. That’s it! The Bible you selected will become the default Bible throughout Logos.

Navigate within a Bible
Once you have your Bible open, you have several different ways to navigate it. You can scroll using the up and down arrow keys, or using your mouse. You can also use the following:
- The reference box displays your current reference
- The navigation sidebar can be toggled on and off with the
icon and provides a table of contents. Click a chapter to navigate to it.
- The navigation icons
allow you to navigate back to a previous location, and back again.
- The Locator Bar provides additional tools for navigating your Bible. (If you don’t see it, click the resource panel menu icon
and select Show Locator Bar. In the Locator Bar:
- Click the up and down arrows to navigate to the next section of text. You can set whether these arrows take you to the next book, chapter, or verse, by clicking the dropdown and making a selection.
Change How Your Bible is Displayed
Customizing the appearance and layout of your digital Bibles allows you to see the text in fresh ways, and Logos makes it easy to create the look that suits your purposes.
