Logos Crashes Opening a Panel | Windows

What to do if Logos Crashes opening a panel (Resource or other) on Windows 7

Problem

When opening a panel in Logos, you may receive the following message:

"Logos Bible Software has stopped working"
May also occur for "Logos Bible Software Indexer"

This is a generic response from Windows and does not provide much actionable data, although sometimes the "LogosCrash.txt" will provide enough information to know what the problem is.

Finding the LogosCrash.txt File

  1. Click the Start menu in the bottom left-hand corner of your computer screen.
  2. Type "libraries" into the search bar and click "libraries" at the top.
  3. Open the Documents folder.
  4. Open the folder named "Logos Log Files."
  5. Open the file named "LogosCrash.txt."

You may see the following in the crash report.

System.IO.FileFormatException: Input file or data stream does not conform to the expected file format specification. ---> System.IO.FileFormatException: Input file or data stream does not conform to the expected file format specification. at MS.Internal.Text.TextInterface.Native.Util.ConvertHresultToException(Int32 hr) at MS.Internal.Text.TextInterface.Font.CreateFontFace() at MS.Internal.Text.TextInterface.Font.AddFontFaceToCache() at MS.Internal.Text.TextInterface.Font.GetFontFace() at System.Windows.Media.GlyphTypeface..ctor(Font font)

Note: It is not recommended to attempt this solution unless the problem occurs more than once. Sometimes an external variable can cause a "fluke" or one-time crash. This is intended to resolve a recurring issue.

Solution: Update the Install Platform Update for Windows 7 SP1

Install the "Platform Update for Windows 7 SP1" to fix the problem.
