You can create custom graphics right from your Digital Asset Manager with the Smart Media Editor. To get started, click Files in your Faithlife Group sidebar.
Click Create to create a Smart Media digital asset for your group.
Note: You can also use any existing image as a starting point for Smart Media. View the assets details, locate the Smart Media panel, and click Create Smart Media. For instance, quickly add a QR Code to an existing asset from within your Digital Asset Manager. Learn more about working with your Digital Asset Manager.

Editor Overview
The Smart Media Editor has three basic sections.
- Toolbar: switch between Smart Media tools to build your image.
- Editor Pane: Customize the tool or add content.
- Preview Pane: See your asset in real-time.
Use the Toolbar to select tools. Add content in the Editor Pane, and move and arrange items in the Preview Pane.
When selecting elements in the Preview Pane, additional tooling shows depending on the element type. For instance, when selecting text, the Editor Pane shows text styling and position options and an additional toolbar shows above the preview enabling grouping, alignment options, deleting the text box, and more.
The Smart Media editor keeps a history of your changes, which you can access with the undo or redo buttons.
When finished with your image, click Save to add the file to your Digital Asset Manager.
In the future, you can edit Smart Media from the asset’s details page.
Editor Tools
Each tool in the Smart Media editor helps you build out a final image that is professional and customized to your needs.

Artboard
Use the Artboard important details about your image, like a title, description, size, and more.
- Title: set the title of your final asset.
- Description: pre-populate the "Description" field of your asset with descriptive sentence.
- Tags: add custom tags to help you find this asset later in your Digital Asset Manager.
- Size: set the artboard size for your image (you can lock the ratio with the lock icon)
- Background Color: add a solid background color using one of the predefined options or any RGB, HEX, or HSL value. The checkerboard pattern indicates a transparent background.
- Filters: once you add content to your image, you can add a global filter to the final asset using one of the presets in the filter panel.
Template
To start with a template, use the Template tool. Search for a key term for your image and select a preset to apply it.
Note: Templates can contain multiple elements: text, images, QR codes, etc. You can add additional elements or remove existing elements if needed, as the template makes each added element editable.
Text
To add text boxes or text graphics, use the Text tool. Click any option to insert it into your image. The headline, subhead, and body text options provide a scaled text system encourage good design.
Click on any text element to show a variety of editing options.
- Content: set the content of your text box.
- Text: adjust typography, including the font, text size, leading, and more.
- Layout: decide how your text should interact with its text box, including how it should wrap and align.
- Position: adjust the position and size of the text box on the screen (includes options for rotating and skewing the text). You can also move the text box manually in the preview pane.
- Opacity: set the text box’s transparency
- Drop shadow: add a custom drop shadow with control over the color, blur, opacity, and more.
- Stroke: add a custom outline stroke to the text with control over its color and width.
- Warp: choose a preset warp with control over the shape and character of the warp effect.
- Text on a Circle: wrap the text in a circle with control over the size, text direction, and text position.
Elements
Add shapes or illustrations from the Elements tool.
Note: Most illustrations can be customized. Select the illustration to change the illustration’s color, position, and more.
Images
Add Faithlife stock photos and illustrations to your image.
Background
Add a background image to your Smart Media.
Layers
Adjust the visibility and order of each layer in your Smart Media. The order of the layers determines how the layers stack. The higher the layer, the more it moves to the foreground.
- Move layer: move a layer up or down in the stack with the up or down arrows.
- Lock layers: to temporarily prevent selecting or editing a layer, click the icon (to enable interaction, click the icon to unlock the layer).
- Show/hide layer: to hide a layer, click the icon (to show the layer again, click the icon).
QR Codes
For printable media, consider adding a scannable QR code to your design.
You can customize the look of the code and choose a variety of QR types like URL, WiFi, and more.
