Log files help Logos Support diagnose problems — and you'll need them if you've encountered a crash or reproducible bug, or if a Support Technician has asked you to submit them.
Windows Logging
Tip
Tip: A screen recording of the problem is often just as useful as log files. See Microsoft's screen recording guide for instructions.
Open Program Settings.
Make sure Enable Logging is set to Yes. If you change it, restart Logos before continuing.
Reproduce the problem, then close Logos so the log files finish writing.
Go back to Program Settings and click Open Folder to open the logs folder in Windows Explorer.
The folder's contents will vary, but Logos.log is usually the most useful file. Support may ask for additional files or the entire folder zipped.
Email Customer Support and include:
-
The steps to reproduce the problem.
-
What actually happens when you follow those steps.
-
What you expected to happen instead.
-
Screenshots of the behavior — see Microsoft's Snipping Tool guide if you need help capturing them.
-
The log file(s) from the folder above.
If you can't get to Program Settings — for example, because Logos won't open or won't install — see the sections below.
If Logos won't start, you can still enable logging using the steps below.
-
Hold the Control key on your keyboard.
-
With Control held down, open Logos and wait for the Sign in window to appear.
-
Release Control and click Sign in. A browser tab will open asking for permission to use your Logos account — click Authorize.
-
If a popup asks for permission to open Logos, click Open.
Logos will open to a blank layout — this skips the home page and your previous layout to give you a clean environment. Logging is enabled automatically. Reproduce the problem, then submit your logs as described above.
If Logos won't install, you'll need to enable logging before the installation runs. Here's how.
-
Right-click the EnableLogging.js script link and choose Save As to save it to your Desktop.
-
If clicking the link shows a page of code instead of downloading the file, click back and use right-click > Save As.
-
-
Double-click EnableLogging.js on your Desktop to enable logging.
-
Retry the installation.
Tip
You can also use these scripts to enable "full-time" logging, so Logos records every session (overwriting the previous logs each time).
If the installation fails again, logs will have been generated. To find them:
-
Press Windows key + R.
-
Type
%localappdata%and click OK. -
Open the Faithlife folder, then the Logs folder.
-
Right-click the Logos folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder. A file named
Logos.zipwill appear.
Email the zipped logs to Customer Support, letting them know you're unable to install Logos.
Note
Once your problem is resolved, you can disable logging using the DisableLogging.js script — just save and run it the same way.
macOS Logging
Tip
Tip: A screen recording of the problem is often just as useful as log files. See Apple's screen recording guide for instructions.
Open Program Settings.
Make sure Enable Logging is set to Yes. If you change it, restart Logos before continuing.
Reproduce the problem, then close Logos so the log files finish writing.
Go back to Program Settings and click Show in Finder to open the logs folder.
The folder's contents will vary, but Logos.log is usually the most useful file. Support may ask for additional files or the entire folder zipped.
Email Customer Support and include:
-
The steps to reproduce the problem.
-
What actually happens when you follow those steps.

-
The log file(s) from the folder above.
If you can't get to Program Settings — for example, because Logos won't open or won't install — see the section below on using the Logos Logging Utility.
If Logos won't open or install on your Mac, use the Logos Logging Utility to enable logging independently.
To install the utility:
-
Drag the Logos Logging Utility file to your Applications folder.
To use the utility:
-
Open Finder and go to Applications.
-
Open Logos Logging Utility.
-
Click Enabled.
The Logos version shown should match the version installed on your Mac.
Note
The Logging Utility won't record correctly if Logos is already running in the background. Before enabling logging, open Finder > Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor and quit any Logos processes — including Logos Bible Software, LogosIndexer, and LogosCEF if present.
Reproduce the problem, then click Archive Logs in the Logging Utility and save the archive to your Desktop. (If Logos is freezing or looping, click Sample instead — but only if Support specifically asked you to.)
Send the archived logs to Customer Support along with the details described above.
